Adolf Hitler was always preparing for what was coming. He was doing this when he created a brainwashing program used on German children. It was called Hitler Youth.
Hitler Youth's Take-Over
Before Hitler and the Nazis came to power in Germany, German citizens' lives were much like the lives of anyone else in Europe. There were groups like Boy Scouts, which had become very popular by then. The Nazi party had created a youth arm by 1922, which grew with the Nazi party. By the time Hitler came to power in 1933, the group had 50,000 members. Hitler began to remove all other youth programs, starting with groups related to other political parties. In 1936, all other youth programs were banned and children were required to join Hitler Youth. Though some resisted, 90% of German kids were a part of it by 1939. If parents refused to let their children join, they could be put in prison and their children could be taken away from them.
What Hitler Youth Did
Hitler Youth used many of the same activities that Boy Scouts took part in, but over the years, many of the occupations for boys became more military like. Eventually, Hitler Youth was essentially a mini-military. The program taught boys just about everything needed to be in the army, and also taught them all of Hitler's beliefs and ideology, turning innocent German children into ruthless soldiers and killers who believed that what they were doing was right. It provided Hitler with generations of soldiers, and brought his beliefs into the every-day lives of people throughout Europe.
